Job Purpose:

The Lead Special Education Assistant supports students with autism and other developmental or communication needs while guiding and supervising other assistants. The role helps ensure that students receive consistent educational, behavioural, communication, and personal-care support throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the teacher in implementing students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
Guide and supervise special education assistants in the assigned class or program.
Allocate daily duties and ensure that assistants follow classroom routines and student support plans.
Model appropriate teaching, prompting, communication, and behaviour-support techniques.
Provide direct support to students during lessons, therapy activities, transitions, meals, toileting, play, and community-based activities.
Help students develop communication, social, academic, self-help, and daily living skills.
Implement behaviour-support strategies under the direction of the teacher or behaviour specialist.
Collect accurate data on students’ learning, behaviour, communication, and progress.
Prepare classroom materials, visual schedules, communication supports, and learning activities.
Monitor students closely and maintain a safe, respectful, and structured learning environment.
Report concerns about student progress, behaviour, health, safety, or staff performance to the teacher or supervisor.
Support the orientation and on-the-job training of new assistants.
Maintain student dignity, privacy, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
Communicate professionally with teachers, therapists, supervisors, and other team members.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, case discussions, and center activities.
Follow all center policies relating to safeguarding, behaviour support, health and safety, infection control, and emergency procedures.
Carry out other reasonable duties assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience:

Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, Education, Child Development, or a related field is preferred.
Previous experience supporting children or young people with autism or additional needs.
Experience supervising or guiding other assistants is preferred.
Training or experience in behaviour support, communication systems, or Applied Behaviour Analysis is an advantage.
Good written and spoken English. Arabic is an advantage.
Basic computer and record-keeping skills.
