Job Purpose
The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment throughout the school. The role supports the health and wellbeing of students, staff, parents, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean classrooms, offices, corridors, staircases, staff rooms, activity areas, and other assigned spaces.
- Clean and disinfect toilets, washbasins, fixtures, and changing areas regularly throughout the school day.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and polish surfaces as required.
- Empty waste bins, replace bin liners, and dispose of waste in designated areas.
- Refill soap, tissues, paper towels, sanitiser, and other hygiene supplies.
- Clean spills immediately and place warning signs to prevent accidents.
- Assist with cleaning before and after school events, meetings, and activities.
- Arrange furniture and prepare rooms when requested.
- Monitor cleaning supplies and report shortages to the supervisor.
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and according to instructions.
- Report damaged furniture, plumbing problems, electrical hazards, pests, leaks, or other maintenance concerns immediately.
- Follow the school’s health and safety, infection-control, emergency, and waste-disposal procedures.
- Keep cleaning equipment secure and store chemicals away from students.
- Respect students’ privacy and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Complete cleaning checklists and any other records required by the school.
- Carry out other reasonable duties assigned by the supervisor.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
- Follow the school’s child-protection and safeguarding policies.
- Maintain professional boundaries with students.
- Never photograph, record, or share information about students.
- Report any safeguarding concern immediately to the designated school officer.
- Never remain alone with a student unless specifically authorised and required in an emergency.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous cleaning or janitorial experience is preferred.
- Experience working in a school, nursery, clinic, or similar environment is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of safe cleaning practices and chemical handling.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate in English or Arabic.
- Physically able to stand for extended periods and perform cleaning duties.
- Must provide all documents and clearances required by the school and the relevant authorities.
